Privacy Policy
How Rekkie handles your personal information, in line with South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).

1. Who we are
Rekkie is a free, locally-run guide to family outings near Johannesburg and Pretoria. For the purposes of POPIA, Dandy Lion Consulting is the “responsible party” for the personal information described below. Our Information Officer can be reached at roscoe@dandylioninc.co.za.
2. What we collect, and why
We practise data minimisation — we only collect what a feature needs:
Calls, emails & shared gems: when you phone Rekkie, email us, or share a gem (by email), we receive the contact details and message you choose to send, and use them solely to respond to you and — for shared gems — to credit you on the map if you ask us to. There are no sign-up or contact forms on this site.
Newsletter (coming soon): when it launches, sign-up will be double opt-in with a one-click unsubscribe in every email.
Analytics: with your permission, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages and spots families find useful. It sets cookies only if you tap “Sure” on the banner (otherwise it stays off), uses IP anonymisation, and we have turned off advertising features. We see only aggregate statistics, never who you are. You can change your mind any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser.
We do not run advertising trackers, we do not build profiles of you, and we do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone.
3. Lawful basis
We will process newsletter emails on the basis of your consent (which you can withdraw at any time by unsubscribing). We process enquiry details to take steps you have requested. Aggregate analytics involves no personal information.
4. Who we share it with (operators)
We use a small number of trusted service providers (“operators” under POPIA) strictly to run the service: static web hosting (Vercel) to serve the site, and — when it launches — an email-delivery provider for the newsletter. To display the site, your browser also loads fonts from Google Fonts, the map library from cdnjs (Cloudflare) and map tiles from OpenStreetMap; like any website request, these see your IP address but receive no other personal information from us. They act only on our instructions. Some may process data outside South Africa; where they do, we rely on providers that offer a comparable level of protection, as POPIA section 72 requires. Google Analytics (Google LLC) may process data outside South Africa under Google’s standard data-protection terms.
5. How long we keep it
We keep your newsletter email until you unsubscribe, after which it is removed from the active list. Enquiry correspondence is kept only as long as needed to deal with your query and any follow-up.
6. How we protect it
The site is served over HTTPS, and we apply security headers and keep collected data to a minimum. No method of transmission is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable technical and organisational measures to safeguard your information.
7. Your rights under POPIA
You have the right to: be told what personal information we hold about you; ask us to correct or delete it; object to its processing; and withdraw consent for the newsletter at any time. To exercise any of these, email roscoe@dandylioninc.co.za. We’ll respond within a reasonable time and won’t charge you to unsubscribe.
8. Children
Rekkie is a resource for parents and caregivers planning outings; it is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us their details, contact us and we will delete them.
9. Complaints

We’ll update this policy as the site grows and note the effective date above when we do.
